Preamble
Lately, with the help of many encounters (real and virtual) I have begun to more deeply accept that we are as mankind magical creatures. As rational as we like to imagine we are, and the world is, deep down we (at least some of us, many) are mystical at heart!
Of course I am a big respecter of rationale, of logic. I do indeed love it. As a capacity. But as a dominant force it always comes up short in my experience…
And so I tend to pay attention to life’s synchronicities. Which when we take a moment to witness are never far away. Every moment is a moment ripe with the potential to pop with new serendipity. Just as logic and rational analysis can be perceived as a fact which I do not deny at all, I also embrace and deny less and less this magic of being, of man, of life and nature which is just as self evident to anyone willing to open to it.
To me it comes through art, through inspired conversation, music and dance. But as Richard Bach suggests in many of his books, this serendipitous magic can and does come through all manner of mediums. Anything in fact. Any book. Any object. And that is because we’re it, we are this magic, it is inherent in us. And the objects, the means and mediums, they simply reflect us—much like Indra’s Net reflects “the All in all”…
We are that, the heart and core of the All and the all.
Retrieving the magical drum (*gifted to me by my first Spiritual teacher Fred Robson of NE England)
An amazing and unexpected gift I was given many years ago 🥁 by my first spiritual teacher from up in the NE of England.
A wonderful vibrant fella by the name of Fred who had a huge impact on my journey. He’s in his nineties now and still with us!
I will be using this drum to form the underlying pulse and flow of my new songs as they unfold and are gradually recorded during this summer…
He told me to let the music & the drum just play me, and don’t think too much. Great advice, always 🙏✨
I retrieved this only very recently when I went up North to collect some of my music things and bring em back down to the SW England in prep for ‘next things’…
